Our Heritage
Thirty years. Three generations. One family's commitment to Ethiopian healthcare.
A Clinic That Changed Dire Dawa
Dr. Alemayehu Demessie, MD founded National Clinic in Dire Dawa — one of the city's most trusted medical practices. For over three decades, the clinic has served not just Dire Dawa but the surrounding rural communities who travel hours for reliable care. Dr. Alemayehu's expertise earned him recognition beyond the city: he was among the very few physicians in Ethiopia certified to conduct medical examinations for immigration to Canada, serving as the sole certified physician in the eastern region into the early 2000s.
Pharmacy Roots Take Hold
Frehiwot Tadesse, a qualified pharmacist and co-founder, opened Weter Kidanemiheret Pharmacy in Dire Dawa — bringing professional pharmaceutical expertise directly to the community. The pharmacy quickly earned a reputation for quality, reliability, and genuine patient care. It was here that the family's vision for a broader role in Ethiopia's pharmaceutical supply chain began to take real shape.
Building the Infrastructure for Tomorrow
The family completed construction of a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical import facility in Addis Ababa — built from the ground up in full compliance with Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration (EFDA) standards. The building represents years of planning, investment, and an unwavering commitment to serving Ethiopia's growing healthcare needs at scale. EFDA certification is currently in progress.
A New Chapter Begins
Weter Kidanemiheret Business PLC launches its pharmaceutical import division — with a clear mandate to help close Ethiopia's essential medicines gap, from hospitals in Addis Ababa to clinics in the rural communities the family has served for thirty years. Bemnet Alemayehu, a newly qualified pharmacist and the family's third generation, brings fresh energy and professional expertise to lead this next chapter alongside the family. From a single clinic in Dire Dawa in 1992 to a certified import operation supplying communities across Ethiopia in 2026: the mission has always been the same.
